'A Future Untold' is one half of a double lead single from Shabaka’s upcoming album Of The Earth, out 6th March. The track places his saxophone at the centre, as it is layered over sparse, meditative sounds including wind chimes and subtle textural effects. The music unfolds slowly, inviting reflection and intention, and evokes the earthly elements through its spacious, resonant soundscape. Shabaka wrote, performed, produced, and mixed the track entirely himself, reflecting a journey of experimentation and self-expression that began before the pandemic. Previously focused on clarinet and saxophone, he has since explored flute, electronic textures, and portable production tools, allowing him to expand his instrumental and compositional palette. Drawing on the experimental approach of influences such as André 3000, the single incorporates Shabaka’s own explorations: rhythmic loops, layered textures, and subtle electronic touches, which support the saxophone without diminishing its presence. With its meditative, almost spiritual atmosphere, 'A Future Untold' highlights Shabaka’s ability to merge instrumental mastery with innovative production.
